The Charaka Samhita complete handbook on ancient Indian medicine credited to Charaka, who was a practitioner of the traditional system of Indian medicine known as Ayurveda, explains: “The body and that which is called the mind are both believed to be abodes of disorders, likewise of well-being. The source of well-being is their harmonious or concordant interaction”.

Chittodvege(Anxiety) is an intellectual and physiologic state defined by cognitive, somatic, emotional, and behavioral factors. Anxiety is generally followed by physical sensations such as palpitations, chest pain, nausea, shortness of breath, diarrhaea, dryness of mouth, chills, abdominal pain and headache.

Ageing and Anxiety is not commonly exclusive, Anxiety is as frequent in the elderly as in the young, although how and when it arrives is distinctly different in older adults.

  • Use of Madhura rasa (sweet in taste) pradhana Ahara and Buffalo milk
  • Practice of yoga and meditation
  • Follow sadvritta (Mental hygiene)
  • Avoid the causative factors
  • Avoid excessive consumption of coffee, tea, soft drinks, hot spicy food, alcohol and smoking
  • Avoid stressful conditions
  • Among the most suitable herbs recommended for this condition are Shankapushpi, Green tea, Aswaganda, Brahmi and Jatamansi as well as Tulsi.
  • Spices that can boost our Pitta (fiery) dosha are used – dill, ginger, cumin, nutmeg, cinnamon, coriander and cardamom. Warm beverages with honey are a great way to balance Vata Dosha.
  • Mahapaisacika Ghrita. Uses brahmi, guduchi, guggul, cardamom, and satapushpa.
  • Enjoy abhyanga, an Ayurvedic self-massage.
  • Get enough sleep without fail
  • Take relaxing baths, spas, or healing therapies
