  • Aardhyam: Effective for curing eye diseases, cough and anaemia.
  • Ouddalakam: Considered as a detoxification agent. Used in the treatment of skin diseases, and leprosy.
  • Daalam: It improves the digestive system and helps in the treatment of cough, vomiting and diabetes.

Properties of Honey

Honey is sometimes considered as one of the five foods of immortality. It has anti-oxidant, anti-bacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties.

  • It is known for its appetizing properties and promotes digestion.
  • It dissolves Kapha and acts as a natural detoxifying agent.
  • Helps in healing wounds rapidly due to its anti-bacterial properties. Honey helps in formation of granulation tissues.
  • Honey is regarded as Yogavahi as it enhances the potency of other drugs when you consume them together and strengthens the body.

  • According to Ayurveda, honey should not be heated over 108 degrees. On doing so, the properties of honey might change and prove to be toxic and hazardous for health.
  • You can consume honey and ghee together, to promote and restore energy in your body.
  • If you have Pitta imbalances (hyperacidity, rash, etc.), you should avoid consuming honey. Instead, you can consume date sugar or coconut sugar. 
  • Ayurveda recommends honey for arteriosclerosis and weak hearts.
  • Honey can be added to all your meals as it provides energy to your entire body.
  • According to Ayurveda, Ama or the toxic undigested food, is considered to be the fundamental reason behind ill health. Consumption of honey can destroy the enzymes and promote digestion.
