According to Ayurveda, external beauty is beautiful only when the internal self is beautiful. Beauty is the desire of every individual to give sensory pleasure. It has 3 essential aspects:

  1. Roopam: it is the outer beauty, which is depicted by clear, bright, radiant complexion and glowing skin.
  2. Gunam: it is the inner beauty that comes from within and identified by innocent heart/ mind and warm pleasing personality,
  3. Vayastyag: it is everlasting beauty i.e. looking and feeling younger than the actual chronological age.

The secret path of beauty in Ayurveda is a combination of herbs, rejuvenating therapies, and tips concerned with physical beauty. Stressful and unhealthy lifestyle such as smoking, alcohol or unhealthy food choices causes skin damage. A person’s skin type is characterized based on three doshas. These are bioenergetics or life forces that make up the constitution of the body and mind.

A vata dominant person has dry and rough skin that tends to wrinkle if not moisturized regularly.  And vata skin has fewer fat deposits and needs more moisturizing, both externally and internally. Use of oil-based moisturizers on the skin and consuming warm spices like ginger are considered helpful. Yastimadhu can be added to the face mask to reduce dryness.

People with Pitta Prakriti tend to have oily skin that’s prone to acne and rosacea. This type of skin needs more cooling elements like aloe Vera, sandalwood (which reduces pimples and redness)

Kapha skin tends to be cold and oily, prone to pimples, whiteheads, and water retention. Turmeric can be used for external applications as it acts as an anti-inflammatory.
